Emmerdale was full of explosive scenes for the Milligan family on Thursday night.

Only recently, Nicky Milligan has been struggling following his parents’ betrayal. Soap watchers will recall that Nicky’s mum, Ruby Fox-Milligan, recently ran over Ethan in revenge for him leaving her son Nicky to die after a car crash, where he was over the drink limit.

At first, Ethan seemed to survive the hit and run. However, in a harrowing twist later in the week, Ethan clutched his head in pain before suddenly dying, leaving his family distraught. Nicky has been left disgusted over his mother’s actions and his father Caleb Milligan protecting his mum.

During Thursday’s episode, the real cause of Ethan’s death was revealed. The scenes saw Ruby tending to Charles and Manpreet as the couple – who are going through an intense rough patch – prepared for Ethan’s funeral. But just as she was comforting them, Ruby learned that Charles received an important call from the coroner confirming that Ethan had died at the age of 28-years-old from a brain aneurysm, much like his grandfather Victor Anderson before him.

Ruby was then told that Victor’s condition could sometimes be hereditary and strike “at any time”, and she promptly left to join her own family back in Mill Cottage, sharing the news with a sigh of relief with her husband Caleb. Although this means Ruby is off the hook, Nicky was far from happy to see his mother dodge justice and, when he returned to the family home, a furious confrontation ensued between him and his father Caleb, with whom he has always had a complicated relationship with.

Tempers flared up as Nicky, who was also friends with the late Ethan, refused to celebrate his mother’s innocence and eventually punched Caleb, with the violent scenes hinting at his upcoming exit from the eponymous village. Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were quick to react to the scenes and accused Nicky of being a hypocrite as they pointed out a past storyline.

Viewers will recall that last year, Caleb was pushed off a ravine in huge scenes as part of a whodunnit, where he was left for dead. Caleb survived the fall and it was later revealed that Nicky was the one who pushed Caleb. Taking to social media, one person said: “Nicky is such a hypocrite has he forgot he tried to murder his dad by pushing him of a cliff” to which a different account put: “Every character forgets their own despicable behavior when it comes to judging someone else!” while another added in response: “Exactly!” Elsewhere, another put: “Did Nicky ever come clean for throwing his dad off a cliff? I hate hypocrites. #Emmerdale.”
